The Car-
In 1981 Ford had an idea, they
wanted to create a European styled car with Superior handling, braking,
and the power of a V-8 in a turbo 4cyl. car. In 1984, they did. The Ford
Special Vehicle Operations built less than 10,000 of these cars from 1984-1986.
Ford did this to show the world that FoMoCo. was back into racing. This
also showed that the Mustang could still perform without a V8, which Ford
predicted at the time (1984) would be gone in 6 or 7 years due to fuel
and emission concerns (boy were they wrong). This also put an end to the
rumor that the Fox bodied Mustang was going to be replaced by the front
wheel drive Mazda designed PROBE. The car was successful by Fords standards,
outselling their goal (and essentially paying for itself) by about one
thousand cars. Unfortunately the Mustang GT 5.0 was faster in a straight
line, and about 8 thousand dollars cheaper, so it out sold the SVO by quite
a margin. By this time Ford decided to drop production on the cars, a sad
day for the SVO lovers. The SVO legend lives on with the SVO team creating
performance parts for all Mustangs, and other Ford products. Ford has also
produced numerous Performance editions of their most popular vehicle, such
as the Taurus SHO, the Ford Lightning, the Ranger SVT, and the Contour
SVT. They also have continued the tradition of making the Ford Mustang
the best sports car a person can buy.
Pictures and info about my 1984 SVO Mustang, Dyno's and timeslip will be here also come spring.
