A brief introduction-
In 1976 Yamaha began production on a motorcycle
of a different color, the xs750, or the 750 Special. This bike was unique
in the fact that it was a 750 cc three cyl. shaft drive bike. Yamaha produced
this bike until 1979 when it increased the displacement to 850 cc. The
850 special was produced for only two years ('80 and '81) until Yamaha
dropped the line. A very poor choice in my opinion.
Although the motorcycle was made twenty years ago,
and was only produced for six years, the legion live on. Because of the
dedication and loyalty of its riders there are still thousands of these
bikes on the road today. Not only are there still "triple" clubs, but there
is also a very active mailing list.
